Book Giveaway: Julie & Julia by Julie Powell

I'm very excited to announce a giveaway for 5 copies of Julie and Julia by Julie Powell. Thank you so much, Anna and Hatchette Books!

Here's the blurb on the book:
Julie & Julia, the bestselling memoir that's "irresistible....A kind of Bridget Jones meets The French Chef" (Philadelphia Inquirer), is now a major motion picture. Julie Powell, nearing thirty and trapped in a dead-end secretarial job, resolves to reclaim her life by cooking in the span of a single year, every one of the 524 recipes in Julia Child's legendary Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Her unexpected reward: not just a newfound respect for calves' livers and aspic, but a new life-lived with gusto. The film version is written and directed by Nora Ephron and stars Amy Adams as Julie and Meryl Streep as Julia.

If you'd like to read an excerpt from the book, check this out:

  1. The other day, we hosted our first dinner party in our new house. I made: scallops with endive and coconut milk, asian chicken rollups with zucchini and carrot, rice, grilled corn on the cob, and pear springrolls with a ginger chocolate sauce for dessert. It was scrumptious!

  10. One of the most labor intensive dishes I prepare is shrimp and grits. The sauce for the grits takes me and hubby to do it but it's worth it!!

  12. The first time that I ever cooked for my boyfriend, I made Butterflied Game Hens. It was my first time having game hens and the first time that I'd ever butterflied something like this. The dinner looked like something served by a fine restaurant (I should have gotten pictures!), and my boyfriend was very impressed. Of course, later on I would learn that I could cook ANYTHING for him and he'd be happy. He grew up without anyone cooking for him, living on TV dinners. So he loved having someone cook him something. A cooked meal = LOVE for him.

  15. I love to cook and I think the most ambitious meal I've ever made was a full turkey dinner while I was in University. I had never done anything like it before and had none of the supplies needed to properly cook a turkey...it took alot of creativity that is for sure

    Thanks for the giveaway,
    Cheers,

  17. I love to cook but don't do it as often as I would like - well nothing big anyways. Having a 6 year old kind of does that to you. Before having a child I cooked more. Can't think of anything ambitious right now but I do remember the first time we did Thanksgiving at our house (now tradition). Right before my grandmother arrived the oven started smoking - something had gotten on the bottom of the oven. Food turned out great especially for my first time cooking a turkey.

  25. I do cook, and I was happiest when I conquered risotto. I've probably done more "ambitious" dinners, but both my husband and I LOVE risotto, so I'm glad I can make it now.

    Thanks!

  49. I have a son who has to eat gluten free. He saw a show featuring Junior's chocolate devils food cheesecake on FoodTV , and said 'I wish I could have that." So that was my challenge - and for his birthday I surprised him with a homemade Gluten Free version. It took me three days - one to make the three devils' food cake layers, another for the cheesecake and a third for assembly with the chocolate ganache and curls. ...but his look of surprise and joy when I carried it was worth every second!

  51. I love to cook and have gotten to be a better cook as the years go by. My most ambitious cooking is cooking Thanksgiving dinner, with every side dish and dessert that any family member desires, each year at our house. We have about 10 to 12 people. I cook the biggest butterball turkey I can find, usually about 22 lbs. It takes me several hours to prepare everything but my sister helps me. We have a lot of fun in the kitchen together! One year, we had fits of giggles over deviled eggs - not sure why, but it sure made that year more memorable.

  59. When I was 16, I wanted to make a special dinner for a boy I was madly in love with. I had never cooked for anyone before, but figured, how hard can it be right? He was a big fan of fried chicken, so I decided to make that. I prepared the meal(working ever so hard to make sure everything was absolutely perfect) and when we set down to eat it, he took a bite of his chicken and blood shot into his eye! That was the day I learned that it takes more than 10 minutes to fry up a batch of chicken! No matter how perfect the outside of it looks lol! Thanks for making me remember that incident! It's been years since I've thought of it.
