Audio Book Giveaway: The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

A huge thanks to Anna and Hatchette Book Group who are sponsoring this generous giveaway of 3 audio books of The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold as read by the author.

About the Book, courtesy of the publisher:

Once in a generation a novel comes along that taps a vein of universal human experience, resonating with readers of all ages. The Lovely Bones is such a book -- a #1 bestseller celebrated at once for its artistry, for its luminous clarity of emotion, and for its astonishing power to lay claim to the hearts of millions of readers around the world. Now in an audiobook edition read by the author, with movie tie-in art.

"My name was Salmon, like the fish; first name, Susie. I was fourteen when I was murdered on December 6, 1973."

So begins the story of Susie Salmon, who is adjusting to her new home in heaven, a place that is not at all what she expected, even as she is watching life on earth continue without her -- her friends trading rumors about her disappearance, her killer trying to cover his tracks, her grief-stricken family unraveling. Out of unspeakable tragedy and loss, The Lovely Bones succeeds, miraculously, in building a tale filled with hope, humor, suspense, even joy.

The major motion picture version of The Lovely Bones, directed by Peter Jackson and starring Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon, Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, and Saoirse Ronan is scheduled for release on December 11, 2009.

About the Author, courtesy of the publisher:
Alice Sebold is the author of three #1 bestselling books, the novels The Lovely Bones and The Almost Moon and the memoir Lucky. She lives in California with her husband, the novelist Glen David Gold.

  24. With the storyline of a girl being brutally murdered, one would think that this would be a depressing and sad book. It is anything but. A tender and poignant tale, Susie watches her family struggling to move on with their lives after her death. Told with the sweet innocence of a 14 year old girl, it is one of the most touching, moving and incredible books I have read in a very long time. Simply put, an absolutely wonderful book.

  25. Alice Sebold pens an incredibly well written story. More than just a story of a young girl who has died, The Lovely Bones is a journey of discovery, not only for Susie in her afterlife, but also for the family and friends who survived her, left behind, among the living. Certainly the best debut novel I've read, ever.
