I recently enjoyed Raul Ramos Y Sanchez' American Libre. I plan to use it in my literature class. There were a lot of political arguments presented in this novel that parallel historical evemts that have occured in the Middle East and other countries.

My favorite discovery by a Latin American is that of Dr. Bernardo Alberto Houssay's discovery of the role played by anterior pituitary hormones in the metabolism of carbohydrates particularly in diabetes mellitus. His findings stimulated the study of hormonal feedback control mechanisms which are central to all aspects of modern endocrinology.
